MENTALIST NEWS

Extreme vs Extreme
When Yeborobo Andrew isn't dancing in front of TVs or writing songs about why you should give him a fiver, he makes comics called 'Extreme vs Extreme'. They are filled with fighting. You can buy one from the tuck shop: Fighting is Fun

Les Enfants - Sea Rabbit
This new offering from Les Enfants is upon us at last. This one sees the children go adventuring for sea shanties...
Fans of the 'Who wants to play bulldog' won't be disappointed as there is still the trademark fragile delay vox and out of control whirring of electronic drums, all tempered with beautifully calming out-of-sync loops lapping at your feet like an aural tide.

UNLABEL SHINKERAMA
Yes yes yes, those lovely unlabel people have made another wonderous compilation which this time features a track by Shink. 'Collapsible Chang' was the chosen piece and is crammed in amongst 39 other bands on a double cd..support these people by ordering it here:www.unlabel.net

THANKYOU FROM MENTALIST
Many many thankyous to all that attended and rocked the xmas parties (see below). All went really well - Goldsmiths was left in a hideous mess of smashed baubles, mince pies, ripped tinsel and a shopping trolley after short but sweaty sets from all bands. This included the college's own 'Experimental Music Project' who were ace and we even had our own 'Santa's Grotty'!

The Orange Street Club was an ideal venue for Mentalist's first chilled out kinda party which included Mentalist supergroup make ups for Esiotrot (two members weren't able to make it) and for the first live outing from Sonaura.

The Last Francis rocked the house with his growly blues, Tea and Toast charmed us with talk of night-bicycle riding and xmas covers, whilst Hexicon completed the night with their beautiful melodies and audience pasta-shaking participation. All in all, Mentalist had a lovely xmas celebration and from the feedback we got it seems that everyone else did too. Next up: Easter Party Rebirth.

CHRISTMAS PARTIES 2005
This year we've got not one but TWO Mentalist xmas parties planned! The first will be at Goldsmiths College, London on Dec 15th featuring noise from Yeborobo, Noise Bitch, Moulsecoomb Sword Gang, Tea and Toast Band and Father's Grasp plus all the usual fun, paint and gimmickery.

The second party will be a somewhat quieter affair at the Orange Street Club in Canterbury on Dec 19th featuring Hexicon, a live debut from Sonaura, Tea and Toast Band, The Last Francis and Esiotrot plus some Mentalist art and promises to be a relaxed winter warmer of a night, showcasing the more chilled out side of Mentalist.

And of course, there's the Haircut Haircut Records Christmas Party!!! Come to the Rhythm Factory on the 21st of December, pay £4 and witness the festival frolicking of moulescoomb sword gang, carpet ministry, esio trot, hexicon, KAPLICK!, turismo and the esteemed teen wolf deejays. And what could be more exciting than the birth of baby Jesus than the birth of Matt, coz the 21st of December is Yeborobo/Esiotrot/Les Enfants/ Moulsecoomb Sword Gang? Hexcion Matt's Birthday! What a Christmas bonanza!

To find out more details about these gigs, just email the cartoon in charge of all of us:mrmentalist@mentalistassociation.co.uk

ESIOTROT
Those wonky indie kids have finally released their charming little EP!
Split between Haircut Records and Mentalist, this sunny EP is here just in time for your summer BBQ!
Buy it from Mr.Mentalist's Tuck Shop here: yeah, the cheese and onion flavour!

MAIDSTONE MENTALIST PARTY!!!
Friday 15th July saw Maidstone's 'Up The Creek' Comedy Club get a proper mentalising.
We had sonic experiments from Tea and Toast Band, Yeborobo, new boys 'Father's Grasp', Noise Bitch, Last Francis and Moulsecoomb Sword Gang, all of whom went down a right treat.
There was all the usual murals, artwork, projections and a Mentalist Tuck Shop featuring the brand new Ex-Tree fanzine (now available at the online tuck shop by tickling your mouse under his chin).....

It was truly an atmospheric night; some quite dark moments, some ridiculously comedic too..
One of the highlights was Andrew (Yeborobo vocalist) and his lady doing some crazy shit with Televisions, tap dancing, boiler suits and strange electronic noises...

All in all it was great for Mentalist to be back in Maidstone with more records, new artists and an unexpectedly good audience response.

BIG BIG HUGS go out to all the loyal friends and fans who turned up; you guys really made our night, thank you!
And to any of you who aren't on the mailing list yet, get on that groovy train now by emailing mrmentalist@mentalistassociation.co.uk and we will keep you informed of all the upcoming Mentalist shows and parties (plus all the gossip, of course).

NOISE BITCH! NOISE BITCH! NOISE BITCH! ALBUM! ALBUM! ALBUM!
The bitch have finally got it together and released their first full length collection of noise. Piecing together songs from the last 7 or so years, 'Bastard' is finally here to bleed your ears dry.
Featuring 10 tracks of infectious grooves, harsh sonic attacks and tripped out wonk-rock, the noise-chefs have served up an audio treat for y'all. Ask the mentalist waiter for your copy:i'll have the dog's eggs to start and eggsick for the main course

Check out the world according to Josafiend on her new art page.show me whatchya got

Alcohol-core duo Neither Do I's second album is out now! Sicker, darker and all round weirder. Don't let your mum hear it.

Oh dear god! The debut performance by Neither Do I on the 17th May they screamed their way through 30 twisted minutes the Spread Eagle in Shoreditch. Also playing was the spaced out Les Enfants at. This really was the debut Neither Do I performance (the last one got cancelled coz of some kind of argument with Nifton). Many people were offended.

The debut release by les enfants is here at last!!! Get 'Who Wants To Play Bulldog?" from The Mentalist Tuck Shop. Here's what Mr.Mentalist thought: "Folktronica childishness and droney ambience. Yum"

You can see some photos of Rob's Art After Dark ghostly tree display here at his new art page (more art will be added soon). You can also gaze into the mysterious blurred world of the Beardfarmer here

Yeborobo and Esiotrot now have new webpages, designed by Matt (who plays in both of them). Have a look.

Handshake Recordings and The Mentalist Association shake hands and bands at Maidstone KIAD Saturday 30th April. There'll be bands from each of us, inc. Les Enfants, Gasp!Cracking Eggs, Hexicon, Noise Bitch, Last Francis. Plus a BBQ!! The fun kicks off at 3pm and it's only £2 admission so come on..and bring your jukebox money!

Tea & Toast becomes 'Tea and Toast Band' for the new release available here. Aptly titled 'A Winter Journey', it sees Mr.Bidder and co. take us on a magical ride via traintrack rhythms in and out of fairytale woodland where streams of conciousness run across your eyelids and earlobes like swirling autumn leaves.
Mixing auric waves of tantra with raggedy piano vocal and percussion mantra, it retains a dark folklore edge but remains translucent and strangely comforting.
To top it all off it comes in a beautifully handmade package which includes its own storybook. What are you waiting for? This is a must for your Mentalist collection.I wanna live happily ever after.

Art After Dark is an local arts event which will be held in Whatman Park, Maidstone this Saturday (9th April). It will feature local artists including Mentalist's own Rob Bidder and local bands including Hexicon and Mentalist buddies, the psychedelic 'Many Colours' (featuring two members of Noise Bitch). The event hopes to encourage everyone to take part in the event in anyway they can. check out their website for more info: www.artafterdark.co.uk

Noise Bitch are back in Maidstone after about 3 hundred years or so. The chef noise mongers will be cooking up an ear blasting stew of noise at Maidstone's Comedy Club, Up The Creek on Friday 25th March. Bring your earplugs and support your local Bitch!

Neither do I will play their debut gig at the Jazz Rooms, Brighton on the 9th of March!!!!! They play as just one of 12+ bands in the first ever Trouble Makers concept band night. Performing will be a chaotic mix of bands, some established, some simply made up on the night! Expect bad language, alcohol abuse and some genius Neither do I terror from possibly the most extreme fringe of the Mentalist Association. Also playing are Gasp! Cracking Eggs, and Mentalist buddies, Epideme.

Mentalist Party report. The Mentalist Association held its second Brighton Mentalist Party on Tuesday the 8th of February. Overseen by Slightly off Kilter we took over the Freebutt for one night. Mentalist artists and friends provided paintings, drawings and prjections to scatter on the walls whilst Noise Bitch chefs served up free pancakes. 'Gasp! Cracking Eggs' gave their debut performance, with surprisingly few mistakes and were warmly welcomed. Then Esiotrot hotfooted it onstage and charmed the pants off everyone with their witty wonky indie. Hexicon, making a welcome Brighton, debut gave an intimate performance, joined onstage in the last song by an all star percussion squad, hopefully we'll see them in Brighton again soon. Finally Yeborobo stomped onstage, adorned in ramshackle christmas gear and spewing forth a flume of foam from their fantasting foam fumer, like some kind of Ibiza foam party gone very wrong. (note, sorry to the Freebutt for getting foam all over your lighting...) Congratulations to the raffle winners who took home a pinapple, a bottle of snapple, a waffle and some falafels.

Thanks to everyone who came and everyone who brought artwork! And big thanks to Slightly off Kilter!

Mr.Mentalist is proud to introduce a new artist to the Association! 'Last Francis' has released his debut record, The 'Obsession EP'. Three tracks of melancholic blues poisoned with jaded self-pity and satanic irony!! A page will be coming soon, but for now u can check out his art/poetry here or you can just be a brave little girl and click here, take the gamble.

The Debut release from Sonaura is now available!!! It's around 30 mins and is the perfect soundtrack to a night stargazing whilst walking home from t'pub. it probably costs less than a taxi too. buy it here, you know u want to.

The Mentalist Association made it's mark at the Tsunami gig on Sat 5th Feb.Yeborobo, Noise Bitch and The Moulsecoomb Sword Gang played at the Tap n Tin, Chatham alongside about 30 other acts and we've been told that around £5000 was raised to help victims of the Tsunami disaster.

You can still read about it here:www.525.org.uk and you can see photos of Moulsecoomb's Ben in his Gaffa tape pants, Yeborobo's Andrew placing Scotch Eggs on Golf Tees and Noise Bitch ripping it up old skool style here:www.kentindie.co.uk

Yeborobo Have just finished recording some new songs. These songs will be split between a new Mentalist EP (working title 'what a fantastic barrier') and a limited 7" for Slightly Off Kilter. Watch this face.

The Mighty Moulsecoomb Sword Gang have released their first EP. If you like your noise flailing wildly with a big sneering grin, then get one here now!

Speaking of noise,Noise Bitch are currently working on their album in a small room somewhere. As yet untitled, we're told that "we're still looking for the brown note"

Other projects still on the go are the Eventide album. Recording is going very slowly for Eventide due to other commitments (namely Noise Bitch), but we're promised it'll be around in the first half of the year (?!)

Busy boys Shink are now working on two new releases. Songs await recording for a new EP, plus a collection of improvisations and jams that they have collected from the past. Things move slowly in Shink land, but keep an eye open for more progress.

MENTAL AWARENESS
Mr Mentalist isn't great at computers and that's why this website is a bit shaky, many apologies. But there is a light..he's looking in to getting some magic buttons from the magic button man so that you guys can buy cds using plastic cards(!) and also he's trying to find a woman with square eyes who can fix this damn thing and accept magic beans instead of money.

GIGS GIGS GIGS

PIGEONS MAY BE DIRTY BIRDS BUT THEY HAVE FEELINGS TOO!!!

Mentalist and Slightly off Kilter pulled off the Mentalist party on Tues July 13th at the Freebutt Brighton (allegedly). Tea and toast kicked us off with an intrigueing ambient 2-song debut set dressed in tribal masks and robes, charming us with passion and experimentation. Next up we had Shink flowing through an eclectic collection of old stuff and new, improvised chaos and beauty followed by the first gig from Noise Bitch since the first Mentalist Party back in 2001. Rather more of a 'Punk Bitch' this time around; one of their more ferocious sets. Yeborobo topped off the bill complete with inflatable pirate ship and the usual fun costumes. Sonic mayhem, a stage presence that made you wanna go up there with them and party plus some truly inspiring music to admire and shake yr booty to.
We sold an unexpected number of Mentalist Sampler CDs which is very exciting for all of us here at The Mentalist Association as it means we have finally infiltrated peoples' bedrooms with a snipet of all of our artists' sonic chaos!!! next up: world sonic domination!
There was plenty of interesting art hanging around too, with contributions from Mentalist Artists and friends plus the usual free reign roll of paper to draw on and some Fortune Fishes to take away.. Altogether it was another successful Mentalist Party and being the first in a new Town has convinced us all to think about taking it all 'on the road' a little more..watch and listen to this space!
